STUDIOLO
by MAURIZIO BARBERIS
Studiolo is the contemporary version of a collector's cabinet, made to be filled with objects and works of art. The project takes inspiration from the offices of renaissance humanists and intellectuals, repositories of vast collections of art and rare items, paintings, gems, sculptures, and ancient coins, courtesy of the sensibilities of nobles at the time. The most famous of these is the study of Federico da Montefeltro duke of Urbino, of the Este and the Medici.
Two versions of Studiolo will be presented, made in lacquered wood, photographic panels, digital edits of 19th century paintings and ornamental motifs from Owen Jones' Grammar of Ornament.
